  • THE JUNGLES AWAIT

New adventures of “Jumanji” get wild with trailer music from The Hit House.

Columbia Pictures created a second installment in the Jumanji film franchise with Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, which picks up 21 years from where the original film left off. Based off of the 1981 eponymous children’s book by Chris Van Allsburg, Jumani: Welcome to the Jungle opened on December 20, 2017 & has crushed box office records with $822M worldwide, making it the 9th highest-grossing film in 2017. Looking to add a certain “je ne sais quoi” spirit of adventure to this French TV spot, The Hit House’s track “Incandescence,” by William August Hunt, from our “KINETIC RE:ACTION” trailer music album, plays from 0:10-20.

Directed by Jake Kasdan, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, tells the tale of 4 teenagers whose world is literally sucked inside-out as during detention at school they literally become trapped in the world of Jumanji. After finding an old video game console at their high school they unexpectedly discover themselves in the jungle setting of the video game with the bodies of avatars played by Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart, & Karen Gillan. As they progress in the most dangerous adventure of their lives, they find themselves not so much playing the game, as the game playing them, with the stakes being a loss meaning they’ll be stuck in the game forever!

Next time your campaign is in the tall grass, surrounded by predators & without a way out, look to The Hit House. We’ll light the beacon, sound the clarion call, deliver the music & make sure we all safely get out of the weeds & together make your trailer a winning one for everyone!

The epic saga continues on December 15, with Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures & Lucasfilm Ltd’s release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Certain projects take on such a grand scale & their stories have played such a part of our collective lives, that when we have the ability to contribute our talents to them, it is a dream come true. The Star Wars franchise is the summit of these, & The Hit House team is honored & awed to contribute to this incredible story-telling universe.

Directed by Rian Johnson, Star Wars: The Last Jedi stars the late great Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia, Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker, Daisy Ridley as Rey, John Boyega as Finn, & Adam Driver as Kylo Renn. In this second film of the Star Wars sequel trilogy, Luke Skywalker guides Rey in her newly found powers as she struggles to control their previously unseen strength. • WALK ALL OVER YOU

Paramount Network’s new “WACO” miniseries trailer by Concept Arts used The Hit House’s reimagining of Nancy Sinatra’s music.

Starting in 2018 Spike TV is rebranding itself as Paramount Network, & with it comes a mass of exciting new programming. One of the new offerings is a 6-part miniseries titled, WACO. Concept Arts created the Revelations trailer for it & chose The Hit House’s custom reimagining of Nancy Sinatra’s “These Boots Are Made for Walkin'” as the the ideal music. Composer William August Hunt had the privilege of recreating the music of this iconic piece, while Tori Letzler contributed her vocals from 0:37-2:00 in the trailer. As Slashfilm noted, “there’s actually a morbidly clever reasoning behind the use of the song [“These Boots Are Made For Walkin'”] here: during the standoff, the FBI blasted the Nancy Sinatra version of that song on repeat, day and night, in an attempt to drive Koresh out of the compound.”

Directed by John Erick Dowdle & Dennie Gordon, WACO is based on the shocking true story of David Koresh, who in 1993 led his sect of Branch Davidians in Waco, Texas. After a UPS truck driver found grenades en route to the Branch Davidian compound, he alerted the authorities who in February 1993 executed a raid on the property. For 51 days the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, & Firearms (ATF) was in a stalemate with leader David Koresh & his followers. Ultimately, the incident ended in tragedy after a failed FBI assault led to a fire that killed 76 people.

The end times arrive on January 24 with WACO, only on the Paramount Network. But if you have a campaign before then, that needs original trailer music, or the perfect reimagining of a classic song… Call us, to make sure someone else isn’t gettin’ all our best.

  • A GODLESS NO MAN’S LAND

Netflix’s New Limited Series “Godless” features The Hit House’s “Hunt You Down” Trailer Music.

When Netflix created its first limited series, they turned to Create Advertising to make the trailer. In turn, Create contacted The Hit House to see what music we could deliver, & it turns out we had just the song to fit their needs. Written by Scott Lee Miller & William August Hunt, with impassioned vocals by Ruby Friedman of The Ruby Friedman Orchestra, Hunt You Down is a soulful ballad of darkness to come. For the Godless trailer, it proved to be the perfect fit at 0:29-1:48.

Created & directed by Scott Frank, Godless is a Western set in the 1800s about a larger than life criminal Frank Griffin (played by Jeff Daniels) & his band of criminals who are seeking revenge against his former accomplice Roy Good (played by Jack O’Connell) who betrayed the gang. Fleeing from the gang, Roy finds sanctuary with the woman governed mining town of La Belle, New Mexico, with the widow Alice Fletcher (played by Michelle Dockery). Almost all the men had previously died in a terrible mining accident, so when the remaining people of La Belle hear that Griffin is on his way to exact his pounds of flesh from Roy, they decide that together they must stand to ward off the evil of the outsider & his band of n’er-do-wells.

  • Fear has been flipped upside down…

The Hit House’s “FRAMEWORK LAYER 4” Horror Sound Design for Advertising arrives for Halloween.

How do you build the perfect haunted house? And no, we aren’t just talking about a place with spotty Wi-Fi and no AC. We mean something so scary that no matter how hard you try, a little moisture escapes into your…

For The Hit House’s 6-time Emmy Nominated sound designer Chad J. Hughes, it began with a clear vision about the dynamics of industry needs. “It’s always a challenge creating something that is useful for trailer editors. In this collection we cover horror in a way never heard before. There is a spectrum of offerings from subtle uncomfortable, to huge bombastic design, and everything in between,” said Hughes.

Categories of sound design in FRAMEWORK LAYER 4 include “Atmospheres,” “Creatures,” “Horror Hits,” “Pulses,” “Signature Sounds,” and “Whooshes.” On cutting through a busy mix, Hughes said, “During the design process I was mindful of how dynamic trailer mixes are in the horror genre. The choice of frequency content was custom tailored to cut through these types of mixes and deliver something that is crisp, terrifying, and that will make you cringe!” This ethos of making it easy for our clients extends through all The Hit House’s music and sound design offerings. Hughes highlighted his intent of making it seamless for the editors’ needs, “We design with fidelity in mind. The end result is something that can be dropped right into a mix and doesn’t tie the mixers hands with overbearing reverbs printed into the cue. It’s something that is tasteful and clean. It just works.”

Additionally, this new horror sound design album’s offerings include even more bespoke elements. “We have introduced several Foley and Design categories that allow the editor to maximize impact and detail in ways never heard before,” said Hughes. These are divided into groups for “Body and Combat,” “Human and Animal,” “Mechanical/Structural,” and “Weapon.” An additional consideration for this album was layering. Hughes said, “Have you ever listened to a cue and thought ‘I’d love this if that one little sound wasn’t in there…’? We found some cues would be useful if broken into two parts. So we gave editors the option of selecting which part of the design they prefer, or choosing the fully layered mixed version of the cue. Adding a level of control never offered before.”

With FRAMEWORK LAYER 4, we hacked and carved away at terror to give you the organs and tissue to create the monster for yourself. Our in-house unlicensed sound surgeon, “Dr. Hughes,” meticulously created this exhaustive and expansive blood bag of sonic guts to play with from the practical, to the ambient to the comple…WAIT WHAT WAS THAT!??!?!

  • MUTANTS NEED NO EDUCATION

Pink Floyd cover song features in “The New Mutants” official trailer.

20th Century Fox & Marvel Entertainment’s The New Mutants trailer revealed a whole new style to the X-Men genre, that of horror. To go along with the theme of a younger generation & the persecution they face under the guise of an “education” at a hospital, the choice of music became Pink Floyd’s “Another Brick In The Wall (Part 2).” The Hit House is proud to be part of bringing to life this spine-chilling cover & while we probably won’t be letting our young kids see the movie anytime soon, we were happy to let them sing for their college funds.

Directed by Josh Boone, The New Mutants focuses on 5 young mutants who are just learning to deal with their newly found powers, while at the same time living through the hellish persecution their kind experiences in a secret facility. The 11th installment in the X-Men film series, this film stars Anya Taylor-Joy, Maisie Williams, Charlie Heaton, Henry Zaga, Blu Hunt, & Alice Braga.

The New Mutants movie arrives on April 13, 2018, & with it everyone else’s demons come home to roost. Until then, when you need custom or original music for your next project, The Hit House will be happy to help you add another brick to the wall, or if the project requires, tear it down.
