HBO’s Hit Series, “Deadwood” Arrives as The Movie

One of the most iconic western gun-slinging shows on cable, HBO’s Deadwood, was introduced as a movie arriving on May 31. A complex drama set in 1889 South Dakota, the grit & violence, interpersonal drama & political machinations all needed to be aptly underscored with the ideal trailer music. For this purpose Colter Wall’s “Sleeping on the Blacktop,” trailerized by The Hit House’s Scott Lee Miller was chosen.

Daniel Minahan (whose credits include, Game of Thrones, True Blood, & Six Feet Under) directed the script written by Deadwood series creator David Milch. In this follow up to the show which ran from 2004-2006 for 3 seasons, the ensemble cast reunites just as South Dakota is about to join the United States as the 40th state. Massive personalities & compelling characters clash as Ian McShane returns as the vulgar saloon owner Al Swearengen & Timothy Olyphant as the hardened yet righteous sheriff Seth Bullock. Additionally, Deadwood: The Movie stars Molly Parker, Paula Malcomson, John Hawkes, Anna Gunn, Dayton Callie, Brad Dourif, Robin Weigert, William Sanderson, Kim Dickens, & Gerald McRaney.

As Colter Wall’s lyrics say, “Sunshine beating on the good times, Moonlight raising from the grave,” & in the same vein Deadwood: The Movie is a highly anticipated event for fans old & new of Deadwood.
