In his crisis of faith, he receives a mysterious letter summoning him deep into the Oregon wilderness and an abandoned shack. Mack journeys to the shack, in spite of his misgivings. There he encounters a mysterious trio of strangers led by a supremely spiritual woman named Papa (Octavia Spencer). This not-so chance encounter, helps Mack find important truths that transform his perspective of the tragedy and alter his life for good.
